Who we are looking for:

Agency is seeking a talented, business-oriented Ad Compliance Specialist to join its WPP Commercial Legal & Business Affairs team in Detroit, Michigan. The Ad Compliance Specialist, preferably a paralegal, should have enthusiasm for advertising law and experience in the automotive field. Knowledge related to vehicle claims substantiation and regulations is required. This role will service as a liaison between the Ford Office of the General Counsel, Agency Legal Counsel, Ford Engineering, and core Agency departments.

This Ad Compliance Specialist must be able to review and revise a range of advertising materials, effectively communicate (both verbally and in writing) various risk mitigation strategies to a non-legal audience. The Ad Compliance Specialist should possess excellent judgment and be well-versed in assessing risk and finding practical solutions. Knowledge of copyright, trademark, right of privacy/publicity, and advertising law related to vehicles is required.

The Ad Compliance Specialist will help ensure the business practices, policies, and activities of Agency and our Client meet not only legal and regulatory requirements, but also are consistent with WPP's ethical and moral obligations to clients, shareholders, suppliers, and all external stakeholders.

What you'll do:
  • Review |Review all Ford Motor Company advertising for Ford and Lincoln products for national and regional automotive advertising. Scope may change and grow as needed.
  • Identify | Proactively identify issues and offer solutions in areas of advertising law, claim substantiation, trademark clearance, copyrights, promotions, and more.
  • Advise | Partner with Product Specialists on claims. Advise Ford Motor Company brand teams on legal issues related to advertising
  • Protect |Help maintain and support all Ford Motor Company Marketing Standards.
  • Support| Will be accessible and credible to the legal team, management, and all colleagues. Be willing to help as needed, across the legal team.
  • Interpret| Explain complex concepts efficiently and effectively. Foster the reputation of the legal team as positive team members and facilitators of business growth and transactions.
  • Observe | Proactively monitor the relevant legal environment concerning current automotive advertising laws and trends that will impact the business and provide advice regarding the same.

What you'll need:
  • Paralegal Certification, preferably.
  • Experience with the automotive industry and claim substantiations, including Section 5 of the FTC Act and general advertising laws and regulations.
  • Significant experience from within a well-respected law firm, an ad agency, or a vehicle brand.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for the advertising space, the ability to deal with ambiguity, a strong work ethic, a direct and candid style, and the ability to prioritize quickly.
  • Comfort counseling agency personnel and the client regarding risks and solutions
  • Location is Detroit, Michigan
  • The team works together in-office at least three (3) days a week
