Requirements

  • Must have or be able to obtain a CUNA or equivalent certificate in BSA.
  • Experience with the GOLD core system.
The Compliance Specialist plays an instrumental part in coordinating the credit union's overall compliance with applicable rules, regulations, statutory requirements, and fraud prevention strategies. This is accomplished through the implementation of a compliance program and the performance of the primary duties and responsibilities while implementing or recommending action to ensure compliance. The Compliance Specialist should be conscious of streamlining efforts, safety and soundness, and maintaining the internal control structure. The Compliance Specialist assists the Compliance Risk Manager in effectively identifying areas of concern that compromise the credit union's exposure to regulatory violations.
  • Monitor and analyze developing trends and changes in regulatory compliance laws, rules, and regulations, with a strong emphasis on lending, servicing, compliance, and fraud prevention. Advises management of the operational impact of such trends and changes. Assists in the implementation of new and regulatory changes as necessary. Assists in the analysis and creation of written responses to proposed new regulations and/or amendments to existing regulations within the allotted time frames established by the regulatory agencies.
  • Triage and investigate potential compliance risks related to BSA/AML, including monitoring financial transactions, identifying unusual activity, and sanctions screening results, and ensuring timely identification and escalation of suspicious activities. Develop and apply analytical and investigative techniques for efficient alert management, identifying and escalating trends indicative of financial crime. Monitor and ensure adherence to sanctions programs, ensuring internal processes comply with regulatory guidelines.
  • Assist management in developing and maintaining a comprehensive fraud detection and prevention program. Collaborate with relevant departments to identify and mitigate fraud risks, adapting controls to address emerging threats.
  • Assist in conducting periodic risk assessments related to BSA/AML and fraud. Develop metrics and reports to communicate findings and trends to management, including recommendations for corrective actions.
