The Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) is proudly the UK's leading gardening charity, with a global reputation for excellence across all aspects of the art, science and practice of horticulture. With an incredible 200-year history, we have a bold and pioneering strategy in place for 2030 to ensure we continue innovating and inspiring everyone at every point in life to grow. Across our five RHS gardens at Bridgewater, Harlow Carr, Hyde Hall, Rosemoor and Wisley, we welcome more than three million visitors each year to enjoy over 34,000 different cultivated plants and over 30 national plant collections registered with Plant Heritage, and our story grows daily.

Beyond our permanent sites, events such as the world famous RHS Chelsea Flower Show, other national shows, our schools, community and professional development work all spread the shared joy of gardening to wide-reaching audiences.

Professional Programmes is a team within the new Learning and Public Engagement division, with the mission of ' building horticulture for the future, where everyone at every level can pursue, create opportunities within and develop fulfilling careers that celebrate the joy and breadth of working in this remarkable sector'. As such, we cover professional level training and development through formal L1,2 and 3 qualifications, through to diplomas and apprenticeships and our own Masters in Horticulture. We also play a key role in delivering new and innovating opportunities for engaging with horticultural careers through our sector-leading New Shoots programme, with a strong core of increasing access to and diversity within horticulture.

As a sector, horticulture is projected to be worth £41.8 billion GDP to the UK economy by 2030, and in 2024 we have seen a year-on-year increase in School of Horticulture applications of 21%, with a 38% increase in applications for the diploma, 28% increase in applications for apprenticeships, an 8 % increase in applications for Professional Work Placements and a 36% increase in applicants for the Masters of Horticulture. From those cohorts graduating in 2024 91% have moved into horticultural employment or further training. In the 2.5 years since it has launched, New Shoots has seen 145,000 individual engagements with its respective programmes.

Green careers are here to stay, and we intend to remain at the forefront of training and development opportunities across this phenomenal sector.

RHS Qualifications sits within Professional Programmes and has recently commenced an incredibly exciting transformation programme to realise our significant ambitions for the future to continue delivering the highest levels of quality qualifications in horticulture and to ensure we meet the needs of our learners, the sector and our growing approved centres through which our qualifications are delivered.

In line with this growth, we are now seeking an exceptional individual to join us as Quality and Compliance Officer for RHS Qualifications.
