AWE is currently recruiting a Trade Compliance Specialist to join the Customer Contracts - Governance & Operations Team. The Governance & Operations Team provides expertise in Trade & Export Controls, Intellectual Property Management, maintains AWEs Insurance Portfolio, develops Customer Contracts Governance, and provides the tools, procedures and resources used by the wider Customer Contracts Function.

Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Package: £36,000 to £45,000 (depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience).

Let us introduce the role

As the Trade Compliance Specialist, you will be responsible for maintaining and developing effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, and providing advice and guidance to the wider AWE team on Trade & Export Controls.

As part of your role, you will prepare end use statements in support of international procurement activities, raise UK export licence applications using SPIRE and LITE (where required), associated record keeping activities in SharePoint to underpin export compliance, provide advice and guidance to AWE stakeholders regarding UK and international trade controls, and provide cross-functional support to the wider Customer Contracts Team in relation to other Commercial activities (e.g Insurance, Intellectual Property). You will be responsible for:

  • Raising UK import and export licences on behalf of AWE;
  • Managing Trade and Export controls requests such as End-Use Statements and overseas export controls documentation;
  • Seeking opportunities to simplify Customer Contracts procedures and ways of working;
  • Defining and implementing internal and external best practice within Customer Contracts processes, and ways of working;
  • Being actively involved with understanding, mitigating and managing Customer Contract risks and opportunities.
Who are we looking for?

AWE is ideally seeking a Trade Compliance Specialist with relevant business qualifications or equivalent experience and commercial acumen (Sub Contract and Contract Management exposure).

You will have good communication skills and exposure to internal and external stakeholder management and relationship development. Experience of using benchmarking techniques and analysis of financial and business data. Strong organisational skills, and effectiveness to manage priorities in a multitask role delivering to challenging timescales.

Whilst not to be considered a tick list, we'd like you to have experience in some of the following:

  • Understanding of UK and International export controls principles;
  • Good team player;
  • Highly developed communication skills with the ability to influence at all levels;
  • Effective relationship management at all levels with key internal and external customers and stakeholders;
  • Good facilitation, presentation, leadership and interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent organisational and analytical skills and effectiveness to manage priorities in a multi task role delivering to challenging timescales;
  • Ability to make sound decisions and to challenge;
  • Well-developed skills in the use of a variety of computerised business software to support business needs.
  • Experience in a Government contracting environment;

Hybrid working is available for this role on an informal, non-contractual basis. Typically 1-2 days onsite per week.
