The Junior Legal Counsel works under the supervision of the Senior Legal Counsel of the Office of the National Anti-Money Laundering Committee (NAMLC), within the Ministry of Finance Headquarters and in accordance with ministerial policies and procedures, to conduct research in respect of NAMLC initiatives for NAMLC; to provide advisory services to the Ministry including the drafting of Cabinet Memoranda and the interpretation and application of Bermuda Law in respect of anti-money laundering and anti-terrorist financing and counter proliferation financing matter; to support the coordination of national risk assessments for money laundering, terrorist and proliferation financing; and to support the development and implementation of the National AML/ATF/CPF Policy, Strategy and Action Plan.
The post holder is required to engage with local statutory committees, and ad hoc committees in respect of AML/ATF/CPF matters related to all aspects of financial sectors and provide advice relative to supervision, enforcement, and compliance with these AML/ATF/CPF international and regional standards. From time to time, the post holder may be required to engage with international standard setting bodies.
The post holder must possess a minimum of two (2) years relevant experience in a legal environment, particularly involving the area of money laundering and terrorist financing is required. The post holder must be a qualified Barrister and/or Attorney of a Commonwealth jurisdiction. The post holder must be a member of the Bermuda Bar Association or at least be eligible to be a member.
