£36,650 to £39,032 per annum - the band minimum is the normal starting pay for those new to a role. In exceptional circumstances, when relevant skills and experience can be identified, a higher starting salary may be considered.

British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is looking for an exceptional Aviation Compliance Manager to join our Air Unit team. BAS delivers and enables world-leading interdisciplinary research in the Polar Regions. We employ experts from many different professions to carry out our Science as well as keep the lights on, feed the research and support teams and keep everyone safe!

Within the role, there will be an opportunity to develop an understanding of operating aircraft in unusual and sometimes challenging environments, as well as to support aviation safety management, and the maintenance of aircraft in accordance with Aircraft Management Programmes. The growth of uncrewed aircraft in Antarctica and other regions is also an exciting area of development which will require your involvement.

Some of your main responsibilities will include:
- To ensure that, as a minimum, BAS remains compliant with OTAR 39 and OTAR 125 regulations.
- To lead and manage the internal aviation audit process, as well as liaising with and supporting external aviation audits conducted by the Regulator.
- Conducting audits on our Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) organisations who maintain our aircraft.
- Supporting the management of aviation safety, including managing the safety incident database, and conducting and documenting risk assessments.
- Keeping abreast of emerging regulations that affect aircraft operation and airworthiness.
- Experience of auditing or inspection (preferably in an aviation context).
- An attention to detail and an enquiring mind.
- Fluency in written and spoken English language and who is an effective communicator.
- Good IT skills, able to develop reports, manuals, and other documents for internal and external use.
- The skills necessary to effectively manage their own workload, meet deadlines, and to work with others to achieve common goals and targets.
