Milliman's Western Region Property and Casualty (P&C) Practice focuses on developing innovative insurance products for traditional and start-up insurers and the associated state regulatory rate filing support. We also provide actuarial consulting on projects that feature a wide variety of actuarial techniques, including reserving, predictive modeling, telematics, by-peril and catastrophe rating, rate development, rate indications, etc.

What You Will Do

Milliman's Property & Casualty Compliance team is charged with preparing, submitting, and maintaining crucial documentation for our clients, related to the products that they introduce to the P&C market. Our team works collaboratively with actuaries, regulatory bodies, and one another. The Compliance Analyst complements the team with their legal, compliance, financial, and/or insurance experience.

Responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Draft policy wording forms, rule manuals, and support for new and existing insurance products
  • Consult with actuaries to ensure coverage options are consistent with rating algorithm
  • Create rating and underwriting rules in consultation with actuaries developing rates
  • Coordinate filing preparation including integrating rate and model support from actuaries
  • Review state-specific rules and regulations to ensure filing materials are compliant prior to filing
  • Upload and maintain form, rate, rule, underwriting, and model filings across all U.S. jurisdictions
  • Draft response letters and make filing revisions in response to regulatory objections in consultation with actuaries and clients
  • Coordinate and maintain rate service organization and other licensing filings
  • Maintain libraries of filings and manuals for clients
  • Assist with the development and maintenance of compliance reference materials and facilitate internal training sessions
  • Complete compliance research projects as assigned
  • Seek to enhance knowledge of job and insurance industry through both formal and informal continuing education
  • Perform or assist with other duties assigned at the direction of Compliance Consultant and/or Project Manager
What We Are Looking For

Professional Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience in an insurance compliance, claims, or legal role
  • 5 years of work experience in an insurance compliance, claims, or legal role
  • Highly experienced with all Microsoft Office products (e.g. Word, Excel, Acrobat, Teams, Outlook)
Personal Qualifications

  • Self-starter, with excellent time management skills including collaboration across time zones
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are necessary to effectively communicate with clients and internal teams
  • Strong critical thinking skills, able to identify critical issues quickly and accurately
  • Close attention to detail, especially when following an intricate process
  • Driven to produce high quality work
  • Able to remain organized while working on multiple projects and tasks concurrently; able to adjust to changes in priorities and client needs in a fast-paced environment
  • Enthusiasm for producing high-quality, professional work with accuracy and integrity
  • Inspired to contribute to the success of a project and succeed as a team
Preferred Qualifications

  • Coursework in general insurance, paralegal, ARC, or CPCU
  • Experience with Property & Casualty rate, rule, and forms filings with state insurance departments
  • Experience working with state regulators or other regulatory entities
  • Experience working with Property & Casualty rating bureaus such as ISO and AAIS
  • Experience with SERFF or other state regulatory filing systems
  • Experience with compliance information software such as Wolters Kluwer, Lexis Nexis, or Westlaw, and/or how to research state regulatory websites
  • Notary license
Location

This role is based out of the Milliman office in Irvine, CA, but candidates hired into this role may work remotely anywhere in the U.S.

Compensation

The salary range is $78,000 - $157,000, depending on a combination of factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, location, etc.
