Aim and Purpose of the role

  • Lead the delivery and management of day-to-day compliance activities for Financial Planning Division of Walker Crips Group.
  • To provide day-to-day compliance support and advice to management, staff, and external parties within the Compliance Advisory team
  • To support Head of Compliance and provide management support for other members of the Compliance department.
The role will provide support to the Group Compliance department, helping Head of Compliance embed a culture of compliance.

Specific duties and responsibilities

Assist with the day to day running of the Compliance operations, working closely with Head of Compliance, Compliance Managers and other team members, to ensure the Compliance department is run efficiently, all tasks are completed in a timely manner and team projects are kept on track.

Responsible for (but not limited to):

  • Providing Financial Planning Compliance Subject Matter Expertise (SME) to the Group;
  • Adviser/Investment Manager and management technical support;
  • Monitoring the Compliance inbox for queries and ensuring that they are dealt with promptly and effectively;
  • Answering general compliance queries;
  • Oversee and submit FCA returns
  • Complaints Handling and root cause analysis
  • Conflicts and Risk Event management;
  • Liaison with external parties;
  • Financial promotions review and sign-off;
  • Customer Due Diligence review and sign-off; and
  • Compliance monitoring (including file reviews), MI preparation and training and competence monitoring.
Other duties:

  • Assisting Compliance team with the application, maintenance and evaluation of the compliance policies and procedures;
  • Administering the requirements set out under regulatory policies and procedures as required within the Compliance team;
  • Assisting the Compliance team with preparing regulatory MI, drafting reports and notifications;
  • Escalate any significant issues, risks, breaches or overdue action items to Head of Compliance;
  • Helping the team to maintain and manage all information, data and records within Compliance to ensure information is readily accessible, searchable and up-to-date;
  • Providing input into the development of technical systems, business processes and projects to ensure minimisation of regulatory risk;
  • Providing assistance in the resolution of Risk Events identified within Walker Crips Group;
  • Assisting the Compliance team with providing advice, training and guidance to the business on regulatory matters;
  • Assisting and preparing training materials and where necessary delivering training on Compliance matters;
  • Assisting the Compliance team with monitoring outside regulatory developments and proactively sharing;
  • Assisting the Compliance team in determining relevance and impact of regulatory change and providing support on the implementation of any changes required;
  • Promoting awareness of regulatory principles and requirements and provide support for their implementation;
  • Managing, Coaching, developing and mentoring new or junior team members as and when required;
  • Assisting in and or being responsible for ad hoc tasks and projects as required;
  • Liaising with the Compliance Monitoring team to update risk assessments, scheduling and focus of the compliance monitoring programme, this may include occasionally being asked to assist the monitoring team by undertaking thematic work; and
  • Taking on any role or duty, within reasonable boundaries, that Head of Compliance deems necessary.
Qualification and Technical requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree / appropriate Professional Qualifications or equivalent such as CISI Diploma in Investment Compliance Level 6.
  • Significant financial planning, investment management and compliance related experience.
Other skills, competencies and attributes

  • A broad and detailed knowledge and sufficient understanding of the financial services industry and regulatory framework to act as an internal adviser / point of contact for the firm.
  • Ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships with others.
  • Ability to challenge in a constructive way, and influence others to deliver processes and solutions in line with regulatory and best practice requirements.
  • A can do attitude with good influencing and organisational skills.
  • Experience of operating in a broad compliance role within the Wealth Management space and have a good understanding of the regulatory environment.
  • Ability to work with a large degree of independence, escalating issues when and if necessary.
