We are looking to appoint a Compliance Officer to assist in the implementation and development of DS Smith's European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) compliance initiatives .

About the Role
  • You will monitor regulatory developments in collaboration with Group divisions such as Governance, Government Affairs, Legal and Sustainability.
  • Create and update DSS Compliance Frameworks to ensure alignment with new business and regulatory requirements and work with IT to reflect in online compliance platforms / portals.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with competent authorities, ensuring timely completion of audits and compliance with all reporting obligations.
  • Act as the central contact for compliance-related communications:
    • Internal: coordinate rolling employee training and disseminate compliance related updates to ensure relevant personnel are well-informed of their responsibilities under the relevant compliance framework
    • External: work with relevant business divisions to communicate compliance updates to customers, suppliers and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure maintenance of accurate compliance records to satisfy regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Present framework updates and compliance status to senior business stakeholders, providing clear insights and recommendations.
  • Support independent audits (internal or third-party) to verify adherence to regulatory frameworks, including EUDR, CSDDD, etc.
  • Represent the organisation in trade associations and engage with competent authorities to align with and influence industry standards.
Implementation Phase
  • Act as subject matter expert in due diligence framework development and strategic implementation of the framework in collaboration with Accenture team
  • Lead on building out the compliance operating framework with an annex for each business division.
  • Point of escalation where business divisions need assistance on implementation of EUDR framework.
About You
  • Track record in delivery as a successful compliance officer / manager within a complex, multinational business. With experience in a manufacturing or similar industry environment preferred.
  • Good depth of knowledge of relevant European Commission laws, regulations, and industry standards applicable to the organisation's operations.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and its predecessor acts a strong preference.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex information to various stakeholders.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing compliance programs and policies in a constantly evolving environment.
  • Adept with latest risk assessment and auditing techniques and related software.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks and priorities.
  • High ethical standards and a commitment to integrity.
