The opportunity:
This role will work closely with the Head of Compliance Monitoring for the international division, performing compliance monitoring activities and other general compliance work.
What you'll be doing:
- Support and contribute to the development and delivery of the second line assurance plan.
- Conduct thematic reviews to ensure policies, procedures, and internal controls are effectively applied and comply with regulatory requirements.
- Conduct deep dive reviews of the top compliance risks.
- Analysing compliance risk metrics, and data feeds to identify emerging risks. Ensuring these risks are communicated and mitigated effectively.
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to agree remedial actions arising from the above. Tracking those actions to completion utilising our internal compliance monitoring system.
- Collaborating closely with the wider Compliance team to ensure key processes and emerging changes are considered during reviews.
- Contribute to regular Compliance reports for governing bodies, offering summary updates on control testing, monitoring reviews, and business performance in line with company procedures.
- Keep up to date with regulation - e.g. attend trade body events or use other methods to ensure we are knowledgeable about strategic impacts of developments in the regulatory system.
- Relevant compliance experience in the insurance industry.
- Have the ability to communicate effectively at all levels within the company
- Have strong writing skills in the English and a good grasp of technology to support and automate processes.
- Have passed or be prepared to complete insurance compliance qualifications relevant to the role. Ongoing development is actively encouraged.
- Demonstrate strong commitment to the organisation, team and role
- Display a proactive approach to duties, committed to striving for high standards and achieving deadlines
- Have prior experience completing compliance thematic and deep dive reviews.
- Have relevant compliance experience in the insurance industry, with a strong understanding of FCA, PRA, Lloyd's, and other international regulators.
- Possess the initiative to work independently and have the confidence to take responsibility for decisions made, but always to be willing to seek help and guidance where necessary
- Focus on personal development and maintaining levels of knowledge and expertise
- Be able to work independently
- Possess good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work across divisions
- Pay close attention to detail and work in a logical and thorough manner
- Be keen to improve processes and look for ways to improve Markel's compliance framework
- Ensure a high level of integrity and discretion at all times, understanding that they work in an environment where confidentiality and sensitivity must be maintained
