Position Summary

The Compliance Specialist performs a variety of functions in support of the University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) Compliance Program. The UNO Compliance Program supports the University's fundamental commitment to the highest standards of ethics, integrity, and lawful conduct by promoting adherence to all applicable federal, state, and local laws, and implementing regulations, as well as standards and internal policies, procedures, and protocols. Key responsibilities include monitoring compliance training and education, coordinating policy development and administration, supporting conflict of interest management, triaging reports received through the University's EthicsPoint hotline, and assisting with compliance-related reporting.

Duties:
  • Monitor the completion progress of the University's compliance training efforts.
  • Provide regular reports to University management regarding the status of the University's compliance training.
  • Assist in the development of compliance training and education materials.
  • Communicate training expectations and requirements to the University community.

Policy Administration

Duties:
  • Assist University stakeholders by providing support and coordinating the policy development and approval process.
  • Monitor existing policies to identify any policies requiring updates or revisions.
  • Suggest updates and improvements to policies based on regulatory changes, best practices, and stakeholder feedback.
  • Provide training, guidance, and communication regarding policy-related matters to the university community.

Duties:
  • Review conflict of interest disclosures submitted by University faculty and staff.
  • Monitor the completion progress of conflict of interest disclosures to ensure compliance with University policy.
  • Provide regular reports to University management regarding the completion progress of University conflict of interest disclosures.
  • Assist in the development of conflict of interest management plans.

Duties:
  • Assist with the management and coordination of reports submitted to the University's Whistleblower Hotline (EthicsPoint).
  • Ensure that reports submitted via EthicsPoint are assigned to the appropriate personnel and follow-up as needed to ensure timely resolution of reports.
  • Analyze, track, and monitor reports submitted to proactively identify trends or problem areas.

Required and Preferred Qualifications

Required Education

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g. legal studies, public administration, business, or related discipline)
