What you'll do

The Customs Compliance Specialist will be responsible for ensuring that all import and export activities comply with relevant customs regulations and laws. This role involves managing customs documentation, liaising with customs authorities, and providing guidance on compliance matters to internal teams.

  • Prepare and review all necessary customs documentation for import and export shipments, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulations.
  • Record retention in an end to end process carrying out checks of validation regarding country of origin, preferences and valuation.
  • Liaising with the company's direct representative (customs agent)
  • Liaising with freight forwarders and fast parcel organisations, ensuring essential customs paperwork is received by the Principal Place of Business (Newbury).
  • Post audit activities to ensure documentation is correct and accurate.
  • Act as the primary point of contact with customs authorities, brokers, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Assist to complete a check of all imports on monthly basis by checking through the Monthly Sales Agreement data provided by HMRC's Customs International Trade Statistics & Customs Analysis.
  • Involve usage of in-house IT reporting systems in performance of the record keeping and accounting tasks.
  • Support development of Global Customs and trade controls community, building connections and sharing best practice.
  • Keep the Customs and trade community up to date with new developments in the field of expertise.
  • Participate in designing and delivery of training to relevant groups of employees.
  • Interact with Supply Chain management and other parts of the business conducting procurement activity to ensure adequate due diligence procedures are in place.
  • Ensure adequate responses are prepared and provided to due diligence requests.
Who you are

  • Knowledge and experience of both UK and EU export and import customs legislation is required. These include the UK Cross Border Trade Act 2018 and EU Regulation 952/2013
  • Knowledge and experience of export control laws and compliance requirements.
  • Good, demonstrable trade/customs industry experience.
  • Understanding of governance, compliance programmes & risk management.
  • Strong analytical, written and communication skills, including Microsoft Office tools.
  • A willingness to learn, positive outlook, and an appetite to succeed.
