Description of Work Unit

CEMML is a research, education and service unit within the Warner College of Natural Resources at CSU. CEMML applies the latest and most appropriate science to promote the sustainable management of natural and cultural resources on Department of Defense (DOD) and other public lands. We provide technical support, conduct applied research, and offer career development and learning opportunities to support resource stewardship. We collaborate with our sponsors and within CSU to resolve complex environmental issues, leaving a legacy of science-based decisions that sustain our resources for future generations.

Position Summary

An Environmental Compliance Specialist position is available with the Center for Environmental Management of Military Lands (CEMML). This position is a remote position supporting the Air Force Center for Engineering and the Environment (AFCEC) in San Antonio, Texas and supports Air Force installations worldwide. The position is responsible for providing pollution prevention expertise to support the Environmental, Safety and Occupational Health Support Management Information System.

Required Job Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:
  • A B.S. degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Compliance, Logistics, Management Engineering or closely related field and 5 years supporting environmental compliance initiatives.
  • Experience developing training materials and providing classroom instruction to large groups.
  • Direct experience with Enterprise Environmental Safety & Occupational Health Management Information System (EESOH-MIS) is necessary.
  • Hazardous Waste or Material program oversight and environmental compliance program experience.
  • A valid driver's license or the ability to obtain a driver's license or access to a licensed driver by the employment start date.
  • The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; CEMML will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.
Preferred Job Qualifications

The successful candidate may have:
  • Knowledge of federal and US Air Force regulations regarding environmental compliance and hazardous waste.
  • Environmental compliance data analytics
  • Experience working in a highly structured organization, such as on a military installation.

  • Subject Matter Expert provides guidance to AFCEC headquarters for the Air Force Pollution Prevention, Hazardous Materials, and Hazardous Waste programs across all AF installations.
  • Conduct regional workshops and independent site visits / audits of installations to determine compliance and work with installation staff to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Develop and review data, provide analysis to ensure environmental compliance and develop action plans for program improvements enterprise-wide for the Air Force.
  • Attend meetings and symposiums to share experience across the Air Force.
  • Teach at the Air Force Institute of Technology for their Environmental Compliance courses
