Description

Reporting to the Finance Compliance Manager, the successful candidate will join a team of officers who undertake a variety of tasks including: internal auditing on financial transactions; helping to manage client balances via an in house built tool; reporting on client balances; monitoring and recording breaches of Solicitors Accounts rules; Communicating with other parts of the business on compliance queries and helping to ensure certain actions are met; working with external auditors to provide the necessary information for Solicitors Accounts Rules audits. The firm is regulated by 3 UK regulators, The Solicitors Regulatory Authority (England & Wales), The Law Society of Scotland and The Law Society of Northern Ireland, as such there are 3 sets of accounts rules that need to be adhered to.

Key Responsibilities
  • Auditing transactions posted by finance team and matter files looking for breaches or potential breaches of Solicitors Accounts Rules
  • Running reports which help identify breaches or potential breaches of Solicitors Accounts Rules
  • Liaising with external auditors and regulators if required
  • Co-ordinating and sending e-mails for action around client balances - collating reports, identifying deadlines for correspondence, reviewing matters, updating notes held, identifying required actions and communicating them
  • Assist with clearing residual balances - often involving reconciliation work, various searches, liaising with fee earners, contacting clients and completing charity applications
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
  • Experience of working in Legal accounts is highly advantageous, but not essential
  • Self-motivation, determination and confidence in their abilities
  • Meticulous attention to detail and good organisational skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines, and under pressure
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • An understanding of legal terminology would also be advantageous
  • Good knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel
