The Controller Division is seeking to hire highly motivated, energetic, and customer-focused Financial Compliance Specialist 3 to support the CNTL-Financial Compliance and Metrics (CNTL-FCM) Group in ensuring compliance with DOE Orders and Directives, Prime Contract requirements, the Financial Managers Financial Integrity Act (FMFIA), OMB Circular A-123, LANL policies, and relevant laws and regulations related to financial processes. Reporting to the CNTL-FCM Group Leader, the selected candidate will be responsible for internal and external audits, conducting internal control evaluations, and recommending corrective actions to address deficiencies. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating and implementing a data analytics methodology for the Controller division using PowerBI and/or MicroStrategy. The selected candidate will be a motivated self-starter who thrives in a collaborative environment and can excel with minimal supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure compliance with applicable directives, regulations, and financial policies across the Laboratory.
  • Lead and implement data analytics and metrics using PowerBI and/or MicroStrategy
  • Support internal and external auditors by preparing and providing financial data and documentation.
  • Perform internal control evaluations and identify deficiencies in financial processes.
  • Develop and recommend corrective action plans to address identified deficiencies.
  • Conduct audits, assessments, and financial analyses, delivering actionable reports and recommendations.
  • Research, interpret, and apply financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance and improve processes.
  • Collaborate effectively with teams and stakeholders to meet organizational objectives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

Division Accounting, Technical Knowledge and Expertise
  • Extensive experience in internal auditing, public accounting, compliance, or related fields.
  • Extensive experience of creating data analytics using PowerBI and/or MicroStrategy
  • Advanced skills in performing audits, financial assessments, and preparing reports.
  • In-depth knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) with a focus on internal controls and process improvement.
  • Proven ability to identify areas for improvement in internal controls or financial process efficiency.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
Communication, Organization, and Collaboration
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to independently manage priorities and projects.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with experience presenting complex financial data in an understandable way.
  • Proven ability to work under strict deadlines, adapt to shifting priorities, and maintain accuracy and accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with customers, staff, and stakeholders while providing exceptional customer service.
  • A dependable team player who thrives in both independent and collaborative environments
Education:

Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, Business Administration or a related degree and 8 years of relevant experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. A master's degree is preferred.

Desired Qualifications:
  • Significant working knowledge or experience with FASAB, DEAR, FMFIA, OMB, COSO, the GAO Internal Control Standards for the Federal Government or Sarbanes-Oxley.
  • Experience with Power BI, Tableau, ACL, or other data analytic software
  • Experience working with Oracle Enterprise Business System and Micro-Strategy.
  • Professional certifications (CPA, CIA, CISA, or CFE, etc.) are preferred
  • General understanding of federal Cost Accounting Standards, Federal Acquisition Regulations, and appropriations law.
  • Experience with Government Contractors that could include a National Laboratory or a National Nuclear Security Administration/Department of Energy facility.
Work Location : The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.

Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Additional Details

Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 . No Clearance: Position does not require a security clearance. Selected candidates will be subject to drug testing and other pre-employment background checks.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.

Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
