About the Transportation Department:
The Transportation Department's mission is to facilitate safe and secure commercial transportation on public highways, railroads, and transportation facilities, as well as to promote quality and equitable service in a proactive manner for the public and commercial carriers in the household goods, bus, and ferry boat industries. This is accomplished through reduction and prevention of crashes involving commercial motor vehicles, reduction and prevention of hazardous materials incidents, development of consumer protection regulations, and resolution of consumer and carrier complaints.
What You'll Do:
This position as a Civil Forfeiture Compliance Officer in the Compliance Division will have two primary duties:
The employee's home must be located within 40 miles of the report to location. This position is working a remote-hybrid schedule which permits the employee to work remotely from home on designated days. This is subject to change with limited notice. A teleworking agreement must be approved by management.
PUCO core hours of operation are Monday-Friday from 8:00am to 5:00pm, however, daily start/end times may vary based on operational need across PUCO departments.
Salary Information: Unless required by legislation or union contract, starting salary is set at the lowest rate of the salary range. In most cases, successful employees will increase a step in the salary range within six months, with subsequent step increases occurring every year. In addition, the State of Ohio offers cost of living adjustments, longevity supplements after five years of public service, and wellness incentives.

48 mos. trg. or exp. in commercial transportation safety practices & procedures; 12 mons. trg. or exp. in hazardous materials regulation compliance/enforcement; valid driver's license.
-Or 24 months as Hazardous Materials Investigation Specialist 1.
-Or equivalent of Minimum Class Qualifications For Employment noted above.

What You'll Do:
This position as a Civil Forfeiture Compliance Officer in the Compliance Division will have two primary duties:
- Work within existing software to properly assess civil forfeiture actions against roadside inspections (hazmat and non-hazmat)
- Compliance reviews and Reports of Violation (ROV)
- Hold telephone conferences with Respondents seeking to have violations removed and/or civil forfeiture assessments reduced
- Interacts with carriers and/or shippers to ensure compliance with applicable laws and rules
- Communicates and clarifies hazardous material safety requirements to drivers, shippers, and carriers of hazardous materials
- This position expects you to obtain and/or maintain certifications required to perform roadside inspections and to attend required in-service/update training in addition to any other training assigned
