This is an Operations leadership role, within Global Cash Services which forms part of the Asset Servicing COO organisation.

The role reports to the Global Head of Cash Services.

Global Cash Services comprises (i) Payment Operations (ii) Cash & Liquidity Management Operations (iii) Payment Scheme Operations and (iv) Capability & Industry.

The Payment Scheme Operations group comprises a small specialist team of six Partners located in London, Bangalore and Melbourne offices.

The group performs oversight of Northern Trust's central bank payment scheme memberships ensuring scheme membership rules and requirements are adhered to on an ongoing basis, to include annual scheme membership assurance.

On going dialogue with payment scheme operators ensures Northern Trust's close and continuous alignment to their respective strategies.

The group is also responsible for oversight and governance of Global Cash Services regulatory reporting.

The new role of Head of Central Bank Payment Scheme Compliance will drive global consistency and best practice across all assurance activities performed by the group, to include the reporting of daily and periodic management reporting to support compliance and to proactively identify potential areas of risk alongside remediation actions where required.

The role holder will also support the Global Head of Cash Services in delivering their ongoing program of operational resiliency activities.

Global Cash Services have embarked on a transformational journey to renovate how we deliver our core payments, cash & liquidity management services.

The role will work in close partnership with leaders across Cash Services, Treasury, Credit, Business and Technology to:

Additional responsibilities will include:
  • Focus on managing others and applying operational or strategic management skills.
  • Management responsibilities and decisions likely include hiring, performance reviews, pay decisions and development.
  • Achieving goals mostly through work of others and providing leadership and direction through senior managers.
  • Accountable for the performance and results of a major part of the organization (significant operational segment within Northern Trust function or a region/country within a function).
  • Developing and executing on a strategy to achieve key business objectives.
  • Managing and providing expertise for multiple functional groups within the Practice.
  • Collaborating with Global Services senior leaders, as well as other Practice Execs and business leaders to develop strategic and financial objectives and for leading the execution of those objectives.
  • Assessing opportunities to streamline processes and implement change via system enhancements and/or automation, as appropriate.
  • Proactively build relationships and partner with capability teams to uncover opportunities and develop strategies to improve services.
  • Conducting the performance management process, identify training and development needs, and establish performance standards for the Practice.
  • Evaluating key business challenges; directs the development of new or innovative solutions
  • Guided by Northern Trust and/or organization functional strategy, impacts results of the company, a major operational segment or company-wide organization function.
  • Defining the function and necessary production organization to carry out business objectives
  • Proactively researching and coordinating enhancements and transformation
  • Supporting Business in providing thought leadership to benefit NT
  • Partnering with the Head of GS and Service RM's to improve the function
  • Responsible for maintaining quality service with future considerations
  • Ensuring changes match industry trends and client expectations in terms of partnering with technology and service delivery
  • Effectively managing financial health of the practice and remain in budget
  • Advocating for cost-effective strategies that meet client needs
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous efficiencies, scale, and value
  • Organising the functional work from a process and locational regulatory standpoint
  • Responsible for control and risk management
  • Providing input to Talent Decisions as related to upskilling the function from a service perspective
  • Effectively managing change and transformation objectives
  • Point of contact for issues specific to functions under management
  • Coordinating operational response to complex issues
  • Delivering quality solutions with an eye to the future of expense management and client service delivery
  • Collaborating with other Practice Execs and capabilities to deliver and overall seamless operational offering
  • Collaborating closely with Relationship Managers to identify issues
  • Coordinating responses between operational teams
  • Liaising between BU stakeholders and Global Services operational leaders on recurring issues
The ideal candidate should possess a fair amount of the following qualities:
  • Operations or Risk Management leadership experience, ideally from a Bank/Investment Bank/Custody Bank background;
  • First-hand experience of both delivering operational services to the highest standards and re-imagining operational delivery & delivering change;
  • Detail orientated with the ability to 'go deep' to understand process & regulatory requirements.
  • An 'engineer' who is able to develop robust operational processes to deliver and demonstrate compliance;
  • A proven change agent & champion for constant process improvement.
  • Data driven - uses data to measure performance, manage risk and prioritise.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong stakeholder network.
  • Demonstrated ability to listen, interpret & communicate with impact.
  • A team player i.e. ability to partner and collaborate across varying business units and geographies.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply in-depth knowledge of own organization function or major operational segment as well as business and commercial expertise to differentiate the company from the competition
  • Proven ability to shape the opinions of, and negotiates with, other senior leaders; establishes collaborative relationships across the business and with external organizations
  • Deep knowledge of Global Services functions, technology and processes.
  • Proven leadership skill with and ability to provide forethought to lead the function globally.
