Position Summary
The Legal and Compliance Analyst plays a vital role in supporting the university's legal and regulatory functions. This position is responsible for conducting comprehensive legal research, preparing and reviewing legal documentation, and supporting compliance-related initiatives. By collaborating across departments, the analyst helps ensure the institution's adherence to applicable laws, regulations, and policies, while fostering a culture of integrity and accountability.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough legal research and summarize relevant federal, state, and institutional regulations impacting higher education.
  • Draft, review, and edit contracts, reports, memoranda, and other legal documents in coordination with legal counsel.
  • Assist in developing and updating institutional policies and procedures to align with current legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Support compliance activities such as audits, risk assessments, and internal investigations.
  • Maintain accurate records of legal matters, case statuses, deadlines, and related documentation.
  • Collaborate with departments to ensure compliance with key regulations, including FERPA, HIPAA, ADA, and Title IX.
  • Assist in the design and delivery of training sessions on legal and compliance topics.
  • Manage and update policy content on internal systems and institutional websites.
  • Monitor, track, and report on emerging legal and regulatory developments affecting the higher education sector.
Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Legal Studies, Public Policy, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 2-4 years of professional experience in a legal, compliance, or policy-related role
  • Strong legal research, analytical, and writing abilities
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Discretion in handling sensitive and confidential information
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and legal research tools such as LexisNexis or Westlaw
Preferred:
  • Experience in higher education, government, or public sector environments
  • Paralegal certification or an advanced degree in Law, Public Administration, or Compliance
  • Knowledge of contract management, administrative law, or public records regulations
