What's it all about?

Within the Corporate Risk Team, the Enterprise and Operational Risk (E&ORM) team ensures Visa has the right processes and methods in place to manage its different enterprise and operational risks, including oversight of operational resilience.

The Three Lines of Defence (3LoD) model adopted by Visa drives accountability for managing risk within the business while having a specialized Second Line of Defence (SLOD) risk management function that provides independent risk oversight. As an independent SLOD function the Corporate Risk team oversees Visa's risk profile, provides challenge to the First Line business functions who are responsible to manage Visa's risks, and supports oversight by Visa's senior management, the board and the regulators.

The (E&ORM team helps to identify, assess, and prepare for any risks that may interfere with Visa's objectives and operations. The Enterprise and Operational Risk Manager will be critical in supporting and collaborating with the Head of Enterprise and Operational Risk in enabling the linkage between Visa's business strategy and risk appetite.

The role is fundamental to successfully implementing and embedding the Enterprise Risk programs across VEL such as: (a) quarterly corporate risk profile (b) emerging risk oversight (c) acute risks oversight (d) Risk Control Self-Assessments.

What we expect of you, day to day:
  • Working alongside the Risk Partners, engage and support the VEL businesses and functions to identify, assess, mitigate, and manage their risks;
  • Perform second line of defense (SLOD) oversight through advise, guidance and constructive challenge to ensure First Line of Defence (FLOD) risk management is effectively embedded.
  • Conduct risk-based second line control assurance and/or risk reviews
  • Embed VEL's risk management frameworks, including recommending changes and enhancements to enterprise-wide processes to strengthen risk management capabilities.
  • Manage key Enterprise and Operational Risk programmes across VEL through effective cross functional engagement with various Subject Matter Experts through working groups and direct interactions. Enterprise and Operational Risk programmes include, but are not limited to (a) quarterly corporate risk profile (b) reputational risks management (c) emerging risk oversight (d) top risks oversight (e) Risk Control SelfAssessments.
  • Support other Enterprise and Operational Risk team members whose responsibility can also include operational/ecosystem resilience
  • Ensure RCSAs remain dynamic and accurate through the use of 'trigger events'
  • Support FLOD in the monitoring, management, and enhancement of controls - this includes setting standards, driving management oversight, and monitoring of controls by the business
  • Provide timely and effective management information and analysis to help inform key business and risk decisions.
  • Use management information, metrics and analysis to inform business decision-making and to measure progress against goals and desirable outcomes.
  • Work collaboratively with other departments in Risk Europe and Global Risk to:
    • Deliver the Risk Europe strategy
    • Support delivery of the Global Risk strategy
    • Optimise efficiencies
    • Deliver appropriate consistency in risk management
    • Deliver key projects and initiatives
  • Work collaboratively with the Businesses and other functions to deliver key Business projects and initiatives.
  • Support the Head of Enterprise and Operational Risk and the Corporate Risk Leadership Team in the effective oversight of enterprise risks by providing executive risk reporting to the Management and Board committees; Drive enhanced use of KRI's and analytics.
  • Contribute to the supervisory engagement and provide responses on enterprise and operational risk related matters through effective engagement with the Supervisory Risk team.
  • Contribute to embedding a risk culture that that promotes transparency, accountability, supports the delivery of sustainable business growth and protects the Visa brand.
  • Manage VEL's partnership with the Global Corporate Risk Risk team and work closely with regional counterparts to:
  • Design and implementation and manage Global Risk Management frameworks, processes and procedures.
  • Deliver Risk training and risk management tools, ensuring appropriateness for VEL
  • Design and implement an integrated Enterprise and Operational Risk Management approach for VEL
  • Develop effective partnerships with various functions to identify, manage and mitigate risks impacting the enterprise.
  • Contribute to a "best in class" enterprise risk programme, and be recognised across VEL and globally as:

What we're after...
  • Experienced risk professional, preferably with a major financial institution or payment card company.
  • Self-starter with a demonstrated ability to achieve results as part of an effective team, and ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task under deadlines. Ability to identify and pursue multiple initiatives simultaneously and deliver superior results.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and proven abilities in negotiating with and influencing customers and staff at all levels.
  • Strong expertise and extensive experience in writing risk papers for Management and Board governance forums.
  • Strong project / program management skills; Excellent time management, organization, and planning skills are essential.
  • Expertise in collaborating cross-functionally, managing in a matrix, proven ability to build new capabilities and act as change agent.
  • Excellent written, oral and presentation skills and an ability to synthesize complex and technical information into clear recommendations on course of action.
  • Control function experience (Finance, Risk & Regulatory, Legal, Compliance)
  • Excellent knowledge and understanding of risk management practices: experience in identifying, assessing, managing and reporting risk, gained across different risk types
  • Business acumen, understanding of the payments industry, payment products and services, and of wider economic/competitive landscape (fintech)
  • Detail orientation and strong analytical skills
This is a hybrid position. Expectation of days in office will be confirmed by your Hiring Manager.
