Role/ Department:

Reporting to the Capital Markets Head of Risk and Change Management, this first line risk role within the Banking and Markets business will identify, measure, and escalate key risks within the business.

The Risk Specialist will work with business unit stakeholders to identify opportunities to mitigate inherent risks by supporting the development of frameworks and enhanced standards.

This role will include engagement with key subject matter experts within the business and supporting areas, as well as collaboration with second line risk and compliance functions.

Therefore, strong communication skills and knowledge of the Capital Markets business are preferred.

The key responsibilities of the role include:
  • Coordinate and facilitate monthly forums to foster open and candid discussions of inherent risks, risk profile changes and mitigating controls
  • Identify areas of highest risk, highlight key controls and control gaps to senior stakeholders
  • Strengthen the foundation to mitigate the inherent risks of the business by supporting the development of frameworks, enhanced standards and related procedural documentation
  • Lead forums to review, advise, challenge and document changes to the Capital Markets product offerings including new products, product enhancements and process changes
  • Foster an environment for open dialogue with business partners serving as a trusted advisor on risk related issues
  • Act as a business unit liaison to the second line risk and compliance functions function
  • Represents Risk on Steering Committees and/or Working Groups
Skills/ Qualifications:

The successful candidate will benefit from having:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organization, attention to detail, time management, planning skills and the ability to handle multiple competing priorities with a collaborative approach to work,
  • Ability to make independent decisions and also to be a team player and effective communicator to ensure that issues are appropriately resolved
  • Inquisitive and enthusiastic approach to problem solving
  • Leadership and organizational skills to direct the activities for the multiple business units
  • Several years financial services experience with strong experience in operational risk, controls, or audit.
  • Excellent working knowledge of audit, risk and operational management concepts and the ability to understand and interpret the impact of decisions, as well as identify and convey potential problem areas.
  • Confidence and expertise to advise management and the business
  • Knowledge of Capital Markets (or a business within Capital Markets)
