The Payroll Controls & Compliance Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting the Head of Payroll Operations and the Controls & Compliance Team to ensure that robust controls are implemented and consistently applied across the business.
This position is vital for maintaining compliance and aligning payroll processes with evolving legislative requirements.
Job Description
You will be responsible for keeping the payroll organization informed about new legislation changes and working closely with the Head of Payroll Operations to ensure that systems and processes are updated accordingly.
In addition, the role involves monitoring and auditing payroll activities to ensure compliance, accuracy, and efficiency, identifying areas for improvement, and implementing solutions to enhance operational integrity.
This is a detail-oriented position where your contributions will directly support the delivery of a compliant and efficient payroll function, helping the organisation maintain its commitment to excellence and regulatory adherence.

Key Responsibilities
- Work with the Controls & Compliance Senior Specialists to support continuous Improvement and assist / maintain the Control & Compliance activities for the entire UK Payroll and Pension services
- Ensure legislative compliance within ISS UK Payroll & Pensions by ensuring updates and changes are incorporated into the business process, understood by all relevant teams and checked to ensure comply, in accordance with the developed strategies
- Ensure that the Payroll & Pensions RACM (Risk and Controls Matrix) is maintained through internal audits of teams
- Be focal point for Internal and External Audit teams to ensure that Payroll & Pensions are able to comply with audit requests accurately and timely
- Support the Head of Payroll Operations for Audit preparation and notification to the BAU Ops teams, to ensure audits are successfully managed
- Work alongside Payroll Training & Compliance Lead in providing training guidance and training materials to both central and on-site teams
- Payroll experience
- Advanced Excel knowledge
- CIPP (Preferred or by experience)
- Experience of Audits and Control environments
- Working in large organisations with a focus on managing controls and audit
- Experience of training others in control / compliance frameworks across payroll and finance (within payroll) processes to large teams
- Proficient in relevant IT platforms
- Experience in conducting internal audits of payroll
- Experience of working with outsourced payroll environments
- Strong awareness of GDPR and Data privacy requirements
