About the Role

Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) is a global university, with international collaboration forming a major part of its research portfolio. Its distinctive features are the scale and breadth of its international partnerships, the wide range of funding it accesses, and the significant impact of its research and innovation on societies and communities around the world. Enhancing our international research collaboration is one of the priorities of the University Strategy 2030.

The International Research and Innovation Team at QMUL's Joint Research and Management Office is responsible for international research partnership/bid development, research security and compliance, and pre- and post-award support for EU and international research collaborations across all three Faculties of the University.

Recognising that international collaborations are dynamic and complex, and an area to which governments and funders are paying increasing attention in view of national security, we are recruiting a Research Security and Compliance Manager. This role will lead a team in identifying and mitigating risks related to international collaboration and enhance assurance in line with UK legislation and funder requirements.

About You

Managing a critical and ever-changing function of the University's international research, the postholder will be required to support the Head of International Research and Innovation in formulating policy and guidance to ensure Queen Mary's compliance with UK Export Control and security legislation, as well as monitoring security compliance for international research collaborations within a global context.

As part of the JRMO management team, with the potential to grow and develop the Research Security team, they will lead a team in advising Faculties on case due diligence, export licensing applications, and NSI notifications, and in developing University training concerning risks in international research.

While the focus of the role will be primarily on international research, it may extend into other areas such as education and technology commercialisation, where relevant international collaboration issues arise. The postholder will work with colleagues in other Professional Service teams, including the Global Engagement Office, Academic Registry, Business Development, and QM Innovation. .
