You'll play a key role in supporting StrideUp to achieve its growth ambitions by working within the second-line Risk & Compliance team, as well as with other key stakeholders, to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, effective risk mitigation, and the continuous improvement of compliance processes.

We are looking for an analytical and detail-oriented Risk & Compliance Analyst whose expertise and dedication will support our mission while upholding the highest standards of risk management and regulatory compliance.

Job Overview

The Risk and Compliance Analyst is responsible for supporting the Head of Compliance and Risk (SMF16 and SMF17 holder) in ensuring that the business meets its regulatory and risk objectives.

You will support our efforts to maintain compliance with FCA regulations, compliance with internal policies, and implementation / oversight of our AML and Risk Management Framework.

This role is ideal for someone looking to broaden their career in risk management and compliance within a dynamic and FCA regulated business. It is a second line role operating across the business so collaboration with and understanding of all areas of the business is also a key aspect of the role.

Key Responsibilities
  • Regulatory Compliance: Assist in setting up and delivering monitoring programmes that ensure compliance with FCA regulations, guidelines, and best practices relevant to our HPP and BTL products.
  • Financial Crime: Assist in supporting the activity relating to the mitigation of financial crime and fraud risk.
  • Risk Assessment: Support the design and delivery of the Risk Management Framework and the risk assessment processes by supporting the business leaders to identify potential risks, recommend mitigation strategies and monitor both. Investigating risk events and breaches.
  • Policy Development: Aid in the development, implementation, and review of compliance and other related policies and procedures.
  • Documentation: Maintain accurate records of risk and compliance activities, including audits, assessments, and regulatory changes.
  • Reporting: Prepare and present reports to the Head of Risk and Compliance/ExCo on the status of compliance reviews and risk exposure to senior management.
  • Training and Awareness: Participate in the creation and delivery of training programs to promote awareness of compliance and risk issues among staff.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with other departments and external stakeholders (e.g., Operations, Legal (external), and Finance) to ensure cohesive compliance efforts across the organisation.
  • Change: Support projects aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of the compliance framework and develop action plans supported by data to make improvements.
  • Horizon Scanning: - Conduct ongoing horizon scanning to identify and analyse emerging trends, risks, and opportunities within the industry. Attend UK Finance committees on behalf of the Head of Compliance.
  • Regulatory Reporting: Ensure that all regulatory returns are submitted by the business within the specified deadlines.
Requirements

Knowledge and Experience:
  • Experience in financial crime within a lending business
  • Experience working in the Risk and Compliance department of a small to medium sized lending business
    • Monitoring and reporting of risk events
    • Experience in 2nd line quality assurance and monitoring
  • Understanding of FCA regulations and compliance principles preferred.
    • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements (e.g. MCOB, JSMLG and Responsible Lending) and mortgage/HPP industry awareness.
    • Certificate in Mortgage and Practice (not mandatory, but preferred)
Skills:
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft / Google Office Suite
  • Ability to write up findings related to oversight reviews clearly and accurately.
  • Track actions agreed to completion
