SEND Assessment and Review Service- SEND Assessment and Review Tribunal and Compliance Officer. Full time position.

In the SEND Assessment & Review Service, we continue to invest in meeting the needs of children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities. We have created a dynamic staff team to enable us to support aspirations, be person centered and focus on outcomes.

We are looking for a competent officer with experience working with young people with SENDto take on the role of 'Tribunal Officer to ensure high quality and consistent Social Care input relating to statutory functions as set out in the SEND Code of Practice.

Please note that this role is predominately administrative. Which is 60% administration and 40% being case work. It is anticipated that the successful postholder will once confident will take on more cases.

The main crux of the role will be to:

To lead on the preparation and checking of all relevant highly sensitive documentation for panels

and distribute minutes when required within the statutory timescales ensuring information governance is adhered to.

Co-ordinate, plan and monitor the progress of individual cases.

To manage all tasks effectively and to organise tasks appropriately to meet all relevant deadlines. The role entails an excessive aspect of organisations.

1- 1:1 consultation with the Senior Assessment &Review Officer to ensure that the timelines are adhered to and the risk of any legal challenge to the authority is reduced

2 - Manage the relationship with partners for the all-tribunal appeals, ensuring the right people are

providing quality information/advice within timescales that is clear and relevant.

3 - Act as single point of contact for Mediation, compliance, and Tribunal, liaising directly with the commissioned provider colleagues and other relevant providers to:
  • Arrange Mediation meetings.
  • Act as the single point of contact for new or existing Tribunal cases and Complaints
  • Prepare Mediation packs for Seniors / Team Leaders chairing the Mediation.
  • Implement the outcome of Mediations, Tribunals
  • Provide regular updates and reports for the SEND Assessment & Review SLT.
  • Act as the single point of contact for Subject Access Requests (SARs) and prepare and submit

  • documentation as requested within the agreed timeframe.

    Ill. Act as single point of contact for Tribunals and professionals from beginning of tribunal

    appeal to the implementation of any court directions ensuring the legal framework is adhered to.
  • Communicate regularly and sensitively with the tribunal, professionals and family throughout

  • the process to minimise the risk of any reputational damage to the local authority.
  • Be responsible for the case allocation and case management of the tribunal process as set

  • out in the SEND Code of Practice.
  • Manage a large caseload and casework of a complex statutory nature allocating accordingly

  • to ensure that the Directorate is-able to respond to SEND children and young people's needs as they

    change and avoid legal challenge.
  • Liaise directly with parents, colleagues and other professionals regarding the tribunal process, ensuring the timely submission of reports in order that the local authority fulfils its legal obligations and responsibilities.
  • Ensure the timely contributions from Social Care, health, school, witness(es) and other professionals with regard to the tribunal process.


  • The successful candidate will be joining a well-resourced SEND Assessment & Review Service and will focus on securing improvement and continuing to build excellent relationships with schools and partners.
