Job Title: Senior Compliance Specialist - Emissions and Power Systems Regulatory Compliance (EPRC)

Salary: £63,537 - £68,000 (depending on experience)

Location: Peterborough, Cambridgeshire

About LPSD

The Caterpillar Large Power Systems Division (LPSD) has locations across the world where large engine platforms for multiple Caterpillar brands are developed, designed, and manufactured to be used in oil & gas, electric power, marine, rail and Cat machine applications. Emissions and Power Systems Regulatory Compliance

Caterpillar's Emissions and Power Systems Regulatory Compliance (EPRC) Group is accountable for interpreting, communicating and leading the enterprise to a strong position of global emissions regulatory compliance. The UK EPRC team is part of the larger EPRC department and works closely with the Group's global emissions experts and U.S. based certification & compliance teams to provide focused regulatory guidance, certification and compliance services for IPSD-M engine products (<7.1 Litre) and Caterpillar Marine Propulsion (CMP Wimborne).

The Opportunity

The Manager of the UK Emissions Compliance Team is recruiting for the position of and Emissions Compliance Technical Lead. For the right candidate, this role will present opportunity and challenge in equal measures.

What You Will Do
  • Develop a strong understanding of technical regulatory requirements (global) to enable the provision of clear guidance to the business on complex technical issues.
  • Lead resolution of challenging emissions regulatory compliance issues that are commercially impacting and/or deeply technical in nature (e.g. fuel/air/after-treatment systems, software/control systems, AECD's, DF's, IRAF's etc.).
  • Lead cross functional improvement initiatives for compliance related business processes such as, Defect Reporting, Voice of the Regulator etc.
  • Manage (from an EPRC perspective) execution of business compliance processes such as Conformity of Production and In Service Monitoring, whilst ensuring alignment with >7.1 Litre team where appropriate. This may include leadership of mandatory emissions compliance tests in conjunction with global regulatory authorities.
  • Develop strong collaborative relationships with global regulatory authorities to resolve technical emissions compliance issues (e.g. EPA, CARB, ECCC, MLIT, KMOE, VECC etc).
  • Engage with the EPRC Systems team to ensure available technologies are employed to drive process efficiency and quality of decision-making.
  • Provide technical coaching to local EPRC team members to aid the development of technical competency within the group.
  • Be a champion for compliance when working with other global business areas (e.g. Engineering, Product Teams, GED, SMSP, CMG's, Legal).
What You Will Have

Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.
• Ability to digest complex technical/regulatory issues, distil into clear guidance and champion/lead to resolution + permanent corrective action.

Data Gathering & Analysis: Knowledge of data gathering and analysis tools, techniques, and processes; ability to collect and synthesize data from a variety of stakeholders and sources in an objective manner to reach a conclusion, goal, or judgment.
• Ability to gather and analyse technical compliance data using local and global regulatory/technical resources.

Product Development Best Practices:
• Proven technical capability and some understanding of emissions legislative requirements.

• Strong knowledge of engine performance and emissions.

Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools and techniques for assessing and controlling an organization's exposure to risks of various kinds; ability to apply knowledge of risk management appropriately to diverse situations.

• Ability to capture lessons learned from technical issues and proactively feed into process improvement methodologies (e.g. 6 Sigma projects, BIQ).

Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.
• Ability to demonstrate contributions to best practices based on thorough evaluation.
• A history of implementing a variety of cross-checking approaches and mechanisms.

Collaborating: Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
• Can demonstrate experience in promoting collaborative processes and solving business problems to meeting business goals.
