Senior Regulatory Compliance Officer

This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in investigations and consumer protection to be part ofan award winning, dynamic team within the Royal Borough of Greenwich.

You will be an apprentice embedded within the Trading Standards team. Trading Standards enforce regulations that protect customers and good businesses. This includes criminal investigations of rogue traders, tackling counterfeit and unsafe goods, and making sure businesses act fairly within legal requirements.

As a Senior Regulatory Compliance Officer you will focus on Trading Standards with an emphasis on illicit tobacco and vape enforcement within a division that covers a wide range of regulatory services.

The role requires an attention to detail as well as the ability to act confidently with a diverse range of traders and consumers. The role will include taking statements from vulnerable consumers, conducting formal interviews of traders, and seizing substantial quantities of illicit goods. The wide range of activities you will engage in require good organisation skills and an ability to prioritise. You must be able to behave sensitively around others and maintain confidentiality where needed. You will be expected to write your own clear and concise reports and to record your activities accurately on an intelligence database.

It is a requirement of the position that you complete the Level 6 Trading Standards Professional apprenticeship. This will allow you to progress within the Trading Standards Qualification Framework and eventually lead to you becoming a fully qualified Trading Standards Officer (TSO). There is currently a national shortage of TSO's with a wide range of career opportunities available to qualified TSO's.

To be eligible for the government funding that is required to complete this programme, you will need to prove:
  • You have been a resident in the UK for at least the previous three years before the start of the apprenticeship
  • If you have been granted leave to remain status, this must cover the entire duration of the contract
If shortlisted for this post, you will be required to demonstrate that you have sufficient maths and English skills in order to access the apprenticeship course, as well as completion of two "A" levels or equivalent qualification/experience. Information on how to do this will be provided when necessary.
