We are looking for a Standards and Compliance Specialist to join our team and be responsible for Creating and embedding SOP's (Standard Operating Procedures), SSOWs (Safe Systems of Work), Risk Assessment for operations, equipment and processes across the mains renewal structure.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

We are looking for a Standards & Compliance Specialist who will be working closely with Water Quality Assurance Specialists.

We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Standards and Compliance Specialist to join our Mains Renewal team. The successful candidate will ensure that all mains renewal projects comply with industry standards, regulatory requirements, and company policies. This role is critical in maintaining the integrity and reliability of our water distribution network.

This role owns the SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), SSOWs (Safe Systems of Work), and H&S compliance within the Mains Renewal Structure, ensuring a continuous focus on H&S and challenging performance and compliance within Mains Renewal.

The Specialist works predominantly with construction teams to ensure compliance and safety, creating and updating SOPs, SSOWs, Risk Assessments and supporting documents.

Key Accountabilities:
  • Compliance Monitoring: Ensure all mains renewal activities comply with relevant regulations, standards, and company policies.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain accurate records of compliance activities, including reports, inspection findings, and corrective actions.
  • Training and Development: Document training requirements where required and guidance to construction teams on compliance requirements and best practices.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies and ensure timely submission of required documentation.
  • Risk Management: Identify potential compliance risks and develop mitigation strategies.
  • Continuous Improvement: Recommend and implement improvements to compliance processes, procedures, equipment and training.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO THE ROLE

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of current processes for SOPs and SSOWs, with the ability to challenge constructively and drive improvements in performance and quality. Experience in a role involving continuous improvement is essential, along with the ability to differentiate between good and bad operational practices and understand their impact on standards.

Strong analytical skills are required to identify underlying causes from significant amounts of data, and excellent communication skills are necessary to convey messages to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. The candidate should have a working knowledge of structures, responsibilities, and key internal stakeholders, and be able to prioritise and balance a reactive workload with challenging turnaround times

Logical thought processes to resolve complex issues and influencing and negotiating skills to ensure the delivery of key activities are also important. Additionally, the candidate should possess strong problem-solving skills, excellent communication skills to interact with a wide range of stakeholders, and the ability to effectively organise and prioritise workload.
