Student Visa Compliance Manager

We are looking for a Student Visa Compliance Manager to join the Registry Operations department within Academic and Student Support Services.

The Student Visa Compliance team is responsible for monitoring processes and ensuring that both the university and students remain compliant with Student Route visa requirements, this includes accurately reporting student data to UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI), so that there is no risk to the University's Sponsor Licence, without which we would be unable to recruit international students. The team covers specialist support for the international student lifecycle from applicant stage, enrolment, course transfers and absences, through to reporting successful course completion for Graduate Route visas.

The work of the team is engaging, with staff motivated to support our international students to the highest level. We are seeking to recruit a dynamic, reliable, and self-motivated individual to join us.

The role-holder will support the work of the team by providing advice and guidance, and leading small-scale projects within this area. This post will support a culture of continuous service improvement and undertake a range of duties:
  • Provide line management for the Student Visa Compliance team
  • Manage the operation of the Student Visa Compliance team, planning, organising, and delegating work, monitoring progress and intervening as required
  • Develop and advise on key processes related to Student Visa Compliance
  • Deliver Student Visa Compliance training across the university
  • Work with the Student Information Management System (SIMS) Team, to ensure that systems related to Student Visa Compliance are automated and fit for purpose
  • Support the maintenance of intranet content, making it easy for staff to access up-to-date and relevant information on Student Visa Compliance
The ideal candidate will have experience of working with student visa compliance or international student support.

Salary: £40,247 - £45,163 per annum (Grade 6)

Job Description

Job Purpose
  • Provide line management for the Student Visa Compliance Supervisor(s)
  • Manage the operation of the Student Visa Compliance team, planning, organising, and delegating work, monitoring progress and intervening as required

  • Deliver Student Visa Compliance training across the university

Key Duties
  • Provide professional advice and guidance on student immigration and visa compliance to internal and external customers, using judgement and creativity to suggest the most appropriate course of action where appropriate, and ensuring complex and conceptual issues are understood
  • Take responsibility for resolving issues independently within the Student Visa Compliance team where they fall within set role objectives
  • Investigate and analyse specific issues within Student Visa Compliance, creating recommendation reports, supported by changes to relevant practice within Student Visa Compliance
  • Ensure that the provision of Student Visa Compliance activity is delivered to the institution, proactively changing the delivery according to customer requirements
  • Collaborate with others to make recommendations for developments of established processes and procedures
  • Establish working relationships with key contacts, developing appropriate communication links with the University's Schools/Directorates and outside bodies as required
  • Support the work of specific working groups from colleagues across the University to achieve school/department objectives within Student Visa Compliance
  • Supervise specific project teams to accomplish key objectives
  • Develop and deliver training on student visa compliance with colleague across the university
  • Instruct and guide other employees across the University on student Immigration and visa compliance as required
  • Undertake a variety of administrative duties to support the department

Qualifications and Education
1. Degree/NVQ 4 or equivalent Professional membership/experience

2. Substantial experience of working within specialist discipline
