UK Head of Financial Crime Compliance - London

An opportunity has arisen to appoint a UK Head of Financial Crime Compliance at our London office.

Summary of the position

This role leads the UK financial crime team in providing AML / financial crime support to the activities of Apex in the UK, as well as taking part in wider Group projects and implementing global procedures on a local level as required.

The UK Head of Financial Crime Compliance will report to the UK Head of Compliance and be responsible for leading the UK financial crime team in supporting the business, develop and implement the UK financial crime risk framework and reporting on progress to Senior Management, Boards and Committees

Outline of main duties and responsibilities

The UK Head of Financial Crime Compliance will be expected to:

• Hold the SMF17 position for Apex FCA regulated entities with responsibility for AML, CTF and sanctions;

• Own and develop the UK financial crime risk framework and monitoring programme, ensuring ongoing compliance with regulatory expectations;

• Lead investigation and reporting of suspicious activities, including SAR submissions and law enforcement liaison;

• Develop and implement UK-specific AML Risk Assessments, Customer Risk Assessments, and Country Risk Assessments to ensure robust controls are in place across all relevant areas.

• Manage the UK Financial Crime team and together with them:

• Complete identity / AML verification checks on new Apex clients and investors;

• Perform periodic refreshment of AML verification in line with Apex policies and procedures;

• Oversee AML verification performed elsewhere in the Apex Group that relates to UK contracted clients and investors;

• Design and perform the AML / financial crime monitoring programme;

• Track non-compliant findings with respective business unit managers until resolved;

• Maintain appropriate written procedures and monitor adherence to such procedures;

• Prepare training material and deliver training in compliance with regulatory obligations and business procedures;

• Promote a culture of compliance and risk awareness;

• Lead the development and delivery of MLRO reporting, internal MI, and dashboards to track financial crime risks and performance metrics, ensuring accurate and timely reporting to senior management, Boards and Committees;

• Provide regular updates and reports on financial crime risk management activities, including findings from investigations, risk assessments, and key metrics for senior management

• Assist with the production of reports to regulatory authorities;

• Maintain effective relationships with internal stakeholders, compliance colleagues and external parties;

• Undertake projects such as those addressing new regulatory initiatives and the review of existing policies.

Skills and experience required

• At least 5 years' experience in a senior AML leadership role within an FCA regulated firm;

• Ideally prior SMF17 or deputy MLRO experience;

• Strong working knowledge of the UK AML / financial crime regulatory framework applicable to the Funds industry;

• Leadership experience of managing a team located in different geographical locations;

• Highly organised with the ability to work autonomously and deal with busy workloads;

• Self-motivated, mature and able to use initiative with a strong hands-on approach;

• A discreet and confidential manner with confidence, persuasiveness and the ability to motivate colleagues;

• Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to staff at all levels of the business;

• Relevant professional qualifications (e.g. ICA Diploma in AML or Financial Crime Prevention).

Reporting structure

The UK Head of Financial Crime Compliance will report to the UK Head of Compliance.

Remuneration level

Remuneration will be commensurate with experience and seniority. In addition, the successful candidate will receive a competitive benefits package.
