Job Description Summary
Organization's Summary Statement:
The Youth Protection Compliance Manager serves as the University of Maryland's subject matter expert and central point of contact for youth protection programs involving minors. In collaboration with campus partners, this position maintains a youth program registry for university-affiliated programs involving minors to track program details, participant information, and compliance status. The Youth Protection Compliance Manager establishes policies and standardized procedures for centralized program management, mitigating identified risks. The Youth Protection Compliance Manager communicates the Maryland Department of Health regulations and UMD/USM policy requirements, resources, and training, to stakeholders across academic and administrative units. This role leads compliance assessments, including addressing violations for registered youth program activities, oversees required criminal background checks and Child Protective Services clearances for youth program staff, conducts campus-wide compliance audits, and provides timely status reports and risk mitigation strategies to university leadership.
Physical Demands:
This is a primarily a sedentary position involving extensive use of desktop computers. The position does occasionally require walking some distance to attend meetings and programs.
Preferences:
Satisfactory State of Maryland and FBI criminal background check and Child Protective Services clearance.
Experience in the field of youth programming or youth protection.
Experience working in an academic environment.
Licenses/ Certifications: N/A
Minimum Qualifications
Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Experience: Five (5) years of professional program management experience.
Other: Additional work experience as defined above may be substituted on a year for year basis for up to four (4) years of the required education. Knowledge of business acumen to understand key business drivers, organizational communications, and data.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion.
Ability to develop and administer new policies and procedures.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
